I have stopped using AMP on all my websites because I cannot use push notification plugins, such as OneSignal. And I can’t do anything on Discover without push notifications (which brings direct traffic, as discussed before).
Some Push notification plugins, such as Larapush and Pushrocket, work seamlessly with Google Discover.
Many newspapers have ditched AMP since Google announced that AMP is no longer important for SEO and Google Top Stories. But smaller websites still need AMP to succeed, especially on Google Top Stories.
If you are a news website or a regional language website that caters to rural areas with slow internet, then you should use Google AMP.

In 2024, Google AMP is unnecessary, but I recommend using Google’s official AMP plugin for WordPress if you absolutely love AMP.
There are other AMP plugins, too, but I encountered many problems when using AMP on my websites.
The WordPress theme that you are using is also important. Not all themes are AMP compatible.
